Reclaiming the Health & Well Being of
Our Community
Make a pledge
In
late 2004, the Regional Y established a $4 million Capital Campaign to
address the growing needs of the Greater Danbury community. Each year
the Y gives out more than $500,000 in scholarships, yet at least
$150,000 in scholarship requests is not met. A successful campaign will
ensure that the Y meets its mission as well as the ever-increasing needs
of our community.
The campaign has 3 goals. They are:
- Build
a new Aquatic Center at Camp Greenknoll at the Brookfield facility
to replace the 54-year-old pools that are beyond repair. The Aquatic
Center will include a paved parking lot, 7,500 square foot locker
room and 50-meter pool, larger than the 3 old pools combined. The
facility will be ADA-compliant and the pool will have zero-entry
access for those with limited mobility. Surrounded with a 5,500
square foot pool deck, there will be more room to meet the growing
demand of our aquatic programs and summer camp.
- Renovate
the Boughton Street branch in downtown Danbury, including an
expanded wellness room with all new equipment; new roof and lockers;
new gym floor; ADA-compliant entrance and the addition of a unisex
changing room on the pool deck.
- Eliminate
our debt, allowing us to use our resources to provide more programs
and services to those that we serve.
As the campaign enters
its third year, we have received $3.2 million in pledges and cash gifts
and, as a result, many of the campaign goals have been met. Our
accomplishments include:
- The
completion of Phase I of the Aquatic Center Pool project. At a
cost of $1.7 million, the new pool started up on schedule and
on-time on June 18, 2007. As
a result of this capital improvement, several aquatic programs were expanded and
new programs introduced.
- The
completion of renovations at Boughton Street in late 2006 at a
cost of more than $800,000. This
is the largest capital improvement made at this branch since the Y
purchased the building in 1969. As a result of this project,
membership has increased by more than 330 members to a level not
seen in more than a decade.
- The
elimination of the remaining mortgage of $76,000 at ESCAPE to the
Arts in Danbury.
