Youth Development

Moving from one to coast to the other, the Acampora family left California to come back home to Westport six years ago. Though the YMCA is a national nonproft, Denise, mother to Ryan and Megan, was introduced to the Westport Weston Family Y through a friend over one year ago when they wanted to enroll their children in swim and water safety lessons. After a few months of group lessons, the kids transitioned into private lessons.

“The family goals were to make the kids water safe and comfortable around bodies of water.” Denise said.

Since they visit California twice a year, they wanted their kids to be able to enjoy going to the beach and spending time together as a family. When they had a great experience with private instructors, the choice was easy to continue.
Private lessons offered the family fexibility and their kind and courteous staff kept them coming back.

“They’re high quality lessons and the facility they operate out of is beautiful.”

The large indoor pools allow for dedicated lesson space so that students and
instructors can work on strengthening skills as needed. Instructors are patient and help create the community environment that makes the Y unique from other lesson programs.

When asked how the YMCA has impacted their life, Denise said, “The kids love the water now and are water safe!”

Every day, in thousands of places, each Y is serving a different us. In times of crisis, in times of need, and sometimes, just because.

Members like the Acampora family are committed to working together to
strengthen our community and help build a better us.

The Y. For a better us.
