RESET Challenge: Week 2

WEEK 2: REFRESH

Maybe your kitchen has turned into the food-court at the county fairgrounds? Deep fried treat in one booth, sugary drink in the next, and top it off with a processed piece of something at the last stop?

Maybe your car has become the 5-star dining experience from another dimension? Where dim lights and cloth napkins are replaced with ordering meals by illuminated numbers and delicately squeezing sauce packets on one knee while ripping off a straw wrapper with your pearly whites?

The fuel we put in our bodies is a choice, and, unlike at a real fuel pump, the options are many.

This week, we will REFRESH our lives; learning tools to manage the balance between stress, convenience, and healthy choices.

SET YOUR GOALS, STAY ON TRACK

Write your goals on the tracking sheet (below) and place it somewhere as a reminder (bathroom mirror). Find an accountability buddy to provide motivation. Activities

This week, we will add to our fitness goals with one weekend of clean eating.

This week is all about REFRESH. We’ll supply resources, activities and challenges around Nutrition and Heart Health since February is American Heart Month. 

DASH Diet

  • Understanding the DASH Diet as part of our Blood Pressure Self-Monitoring Program. Open to all.

  • Five days with 30 minutes of physical activity
  • Try our On-Demand fitness videos
  • Join a nationwide online Live Fitness classes
  • Try the Regional Y’s local Live Zoom classes

  • Snow shoe  at Happy Landings in Brookfield
  • Walk the Still River Greenway in Brookfield (family friendly) 
  • Have a meatless dinner each week  
  • Incorporate fruit into your breakfast  
  • Add vegetables as a snack  
  • Strive for 5 servings of fruits and vegetables a day  
  • “Eat the rainbow” Minimum 2-3 fruit and veggie servings

  • Clean out a closet and donate clothes that no longer fit (too big or too small)  
  • Donate HEALTHY food items to your local food pantry

  • Kids Healthy word search
  • Include the kids in packing lunches
  • Create a popsicle stick workout with your kids: grab a stack of popsicle sticks and write an activity on each popsicle stick (squats, jumping jacks, lunges, sit ups, etc.) Put the popsicle sticks in a cup and have the kids take turns picking a popsicle stick. Complete 10 of each activity before you move onto the next one.  
  • Create your own Tabata class: create cardio stations using jump ropes, weights, body weight, squats, cardio, etc. Complete each activity for 20 seconds and then rest for 10 seconds. Repeat 3 more times and then move to the next station.  
  • Deck of cards workout. Grab a deck of cards and get ready to sweat! See directions.
